Kosebali (beans) production, harvesting techniques, pest control, and conservation

On 22 November 2025, a one-day technical workshop on Kosebali (beans) production, harvesting techniques, pest management, and conservation was held at the Rampur Ward No. 5 Office in Ramechhap. The session was facilitated by NARC officer Mr. Bikash Bhusal and attended by approximately 55 farmers, along with the Ward Chairperson and the Municipal Agriculture Officer.

The workshop was organized by Sagarmatha Livestock and Agriculture Cooperatives Limited and supported by Ramechhap Ward–5 and the Southasia Institute of Advanced Studies (SIAS), bringing together key institutions to strengthen community-level agricultural knowledge.

Participants received detailed guidance on identifying beneficial insects and harmful pests, understanding their life cycles, and recognizing the stages when they cause maximum crop damage. Emphasis was placed on prioritizing indigenous and local seed varieties to enhance resilience and reduce dependence on hybrid seeds.

The training also covered safe pesticide handling, proper storage, and the health risks associated with improper use. As part of eco-friendly pest management, farmers were introduced to non-chemical methods, including pheromone traps, sticky traps, water traps, light traps, botanical extracts, and field sanitation practices.

The workshop concluded with a hands-on demonstration, where participants learned to prepare three types of liquid organic manure (Jholmol), enhancing their capacity to adopt sustainable, organic, and low-cost farming practices in their communities.
